More Inspiration for using Organic instead of Toxins

Before the solution to every problem was to use a toxin, we used what we had available. And they worked. Before we used man made derivations of the plants that helped us overcome disease, we used willow bark and St John's Wart. I studied plants and herbs when they still thought was Witchcraft to do so. I know they worked. You have to start thinking like our ancestor did. Use what we have, to handle the problem. For every problem there is a natural answer.

eg:

Someone asked this question the other day...

How can you remove oil from water using organics like grass and feathers?
I am looking for different methods to remove the oil in case of a small spill, using only my hands. Any suggestions?

Answer:

Try putting some diatomaceous earth in a cheesecloth bag, then skim it across the water, since the oil will float on top of the water. There is also a device that looks like regular 8 or 12-oz. measuring cup...called a gravy skimmer, which separates fat from gravy, available thru Williams-Sonoma or other cook's supplies websites.

Another Answer:

Peat moss, it will float for some time on the water and will absorb the oil before it wets with the water...my 2nd oldest girl went to state with the project in high school...got a prize from the Navy...the gravy skimmer is poly propylene (spelling) and as such is not organic like grass & feathers but is more hydrophobic than peat moss and works very well.

Using our brains to solve a problem instead of someone's toxic product...what a concept!
